A Deceitful Police Officer

A client listed a contact at a police detachment to provide a reference for a candidate. The reference had been the candidate’s supervisor, and stated that the candidate had resigned from his position.

But when pressed for clarification, the reference revealed that the candidate had left due to issues of integrity, and might yet face charges of deceit under the provincial police act. Were he to be charged, the candidate would no longer be able to stand in court as a police officer. He had quit prior to charges being laid.

The reference did not recommend this candidate due to his past deceits. However, had the reference not been pressed for a clarification, nothing untoward would have come to light.
