“Certified” MBA Turns Out To Be False

A client had asked BackCheck to verify a job candidate who claimed to have an MBA. In order to proceed with the verifications, BackCheck contacted the candidate to obtain his student number.

The candidate did not have his student number on hand, as he had recently moved. He stated however that it was not necessary to verify his education as his current employer had already done so. The candidate was instead able to locate his Bachelor’s degree and MBA, which had both been “certified” by a lawyer.

Soon after forwarding the documents to the university, BackCheck received a call from the registrar’s office informing us that the candidate had never completed either his Bachelor’s Degree or his MBA. The candidate had only taken one course at the university. Moreover, the university intended to bring a lawsuit against the candidate for falsification of documents.

While this candidate had been able to fool large banks before with his false credentials, our client was relieved not to fall into the same trap.

Do you know who you’re hiring?
