Former BC Baseball Coach Charged With Sexual Assault

A former baseball coach in Tsawwassen has been charged with sex-related offenses against three youths he once oversaw. The abused youths ranged from elementary school students to high school students.

While no information about when the abuses happened has been released, the offenses likely took place over the decade he was working with children, from 1985 to 1995. These incidents further highlight the importance of the ongoing background checking in youth sports across the nation.

Youth sports volunteers have been undergoing background checks for many years in an effort to protect young athletes from sexual predators. Recent changes to the rules of background checking have increased the number of fingerprints checked by RCMP, in order to increase the accuracy of the checks.

The continued criminal background checks on volunteers offer a safeguard to our young Canadian athletes to prevent these kinds of recurrences. Background checks are an important part of youth sports, and while some may consider them to be inconvenient, they are the best protection against further predation in youth sports.

BackCheck is Canada’s leader in criminal background checks, providing check sports organizations in every province. Our quick turn-around time helps sports organizations process their volunteer checks in a timely fashion to keep the sports running.
